TOTAL WORTH by Janice M. Wilson
I’d been catapulted through too many contract jobs and unstable corporations. Of course, it’s the new norm and I know I’m not the only one experiencing this craziness. It is just how it is now in the job market – if you’re not a CEO/President. Even knowing that, after a while my self-worth still takes a little beating and it’s a constant battle to keep the chin up. Hey, I’m just being honest.
Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. (Luke 12:27)
Not long before I was laid off (with a huge number of others) from a defense contractor, I was given the opportunity to view an intranet corporate sponsored ‘employee-worth’ profile page, which exhibited how much money they paid me, how much was going for medical, taxes, training, retirement funds, etc. It was a polite reminder of how much THEY were paying towards my employment there. It was a big number, more than I thought. Then we were told shortly after the ordination of the current President that lay-offs were coming. Oh goody.
I knew if I were let go, gone are all those great medical benefits and steady paychecks. There’s a lot more to life than those two things, of course, and I did previously post about this life change in Catapult. But here I want to point out the lack of worth the world intrudes on each of us every waking minute.
The disrespect doesn’t stop there at:
-
job instability;
-
injury/sickness disability and medical coverage – the price of a basic human right is beyond affordability which even companies will not pay;
-
lack of good pure food (without GMOs, pesticides, horomones, etc);
-
lack of safe (without 10+ side effects) and affordable medicine (another basic human right);
-
killing the next generation before they are born;
-
our desensitizing trash entertainment industry;
-
dumbing down our reasoning and education;
-
degrading our values and capabilities and replacing those with low standards and expectations;
-
promoting our sense of entitlement for everything under the sun as hand-outs without encouraging accomplishment through hard work and using the brain.
That’s after the global:
-
degrading of women and children through unrealistic ‘modeled’ anorexic expectations (often through poisonous silicone enhancements);
-
possible kidnapping then rape, drugging and enslavement in the sex industry;
-
and the promotion of pornography for all – everywhere we look.
